Commercial Hardwood Floor Refinishing
Is It Time to Re-Coat Your Gym Floor?
Most gym floors can be restored by a simple screening and recoat. This process is the most inexpensive way to bring back your floors original shine and most importantly to build up a protective layer of finish. Most gym floors can be screened and recoated over a two day period, depending on the size, and will be available for activity shortly afterwards.
Professional Floors of St. Louis strongly recommend that all newly installed and resurfaced wood floors be screened and recoated after the first year. It is important to build up layers of finish to protect the wood and the game lines from being damaged. A typical gym floor with normal foot traffic will wear through one layer of finish each year. Basketball court keys, racquetball service areas, and aerobic room exercise areas tend to wear much more quickly. In these areas it is normal to wear through two or more layers of finish in a year.
Professional Floors of St. Louis uses what is called a dry screening method when recoating floors (when applicable in most cases). The first step will be to thoroughly clean your gym floor to remove any debris and liquid spills such as drinks, sweat, etc. We will then screen or “rough-up” the wood using our powerful industrial screening equipment. It is important that the floor is cleaned thoroughly before coating to give the floor a better appearance. The new finish will bond to a floor that is cleaned thoroughly as well. The floor will then be carefully vacuumed and cleaned again. When dry, we will coat your gym floor with a high quality commercial polyurethane known for its durability.
